The Newport News Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. annually grants scholarships to graduating seniors in each high school in Newport News Public Schools to help further their education at a college or university.
An Achievable Dream Middle and High School —The Helene Campfield Memorial Scholarship
Denbigh High School – The Mary Tillerson Memorial Scholarship
Heritage High School – The Elizabeth Hines Memorial Scholarship
Menchville High School – The Celestine R. Jackson Memorial Scholarship

The Newport News Alumnae Chapter (NNAC) scholarship application submission process is currently open. Scholarships are only available to Newport News Public Schools high school seniors graduating in June 2026.
For your reference, the minimum criteria for scholarships are listed below.
NNAC Scholarship
- Graduating Senior-June 2026
- 2.75 GPA on 4.0 Scale or 1.75 GPA on 3.0 Scale
- Must be a student enrolled in a Newport News Public High School and residing in Newport News
The Doris H. Watson Scholarship
- Graduating Senior-June 2026
- 3.0 GPA or higher, SAT of 900 or higher, ACT of 19 or higher.
- African American female high school senior
- Be accepted for admission and attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
- Preference given to involvement in any organizations that promote education and/or planning to major in Education.
- Have demonstrated an excellent record of conduct, leadership potential, and/or community involvement.
The Hattie T. Lucas Scholarship
- Graduating Senior-June 2026
- 3.0 GPA or higher per semester
- African-American high school senior or adult (25-35 returning to complete degree).
- Be accepted for admission and attend an accredited four-year college or university.
- Have demonstrated great potential with high morals, involved in Christian Education activities, and in regular attendance at a Christian (Bible-based) church.
Decade of DSTinction Scholarship Award
- Graduating Senior-June 2026
- Be accepted for admission and attend a HBCU.
- Pursuing a STEM, Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing Degree for the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Meet the criteria of and complete all requirements established in the NNAC Scholarship application process.
Application Process
- Complete online application available online. Click the link below.
- One (1) essay that specifically address the topic in the application.
- One (1) signed letter of recommendation from a school counselor.
- One (1) signed letter of recommendation from a teacher or administrator.
- One (1) OFFICIAL transcript.
- Submit all application materials listed above by 9:00 AM on Monday, March 23, 2026.
