During the week Newport News Alumnae Chapter will be highlighting “Sisters who Shine“. This week is dedicated to honoring Sorors who quietly make a difference in our sisterhood. Today we will highlight Sorors you can ALWAYS count on with “I’ve got your back” award. We highlight Sorors who always foster a positive environment with “Sunshine Smile” award. We highlight Sorors who show constant kindness and compassion with “Heart of Gold” award. We highlight Sorors who selflessly supporting others behind the scenes with “Unsung Hero” award.
Community Impact Breakfast
On Monday, March 17, 2025 members of NNAC attended the Greater Peninsula C.A.R.E.S Foundation, Inc. Community Impact Breakfast where they were able to join local leaders and conmmunity members for a morning of collective impact and collaboration.

Honoring the legacy of Dr. Bertha Maxwell Rodney with service. On Saturday March 15, 2025 the Newport News Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc partnered with the Hampton and Newport News Chapters of the Links, Inc for the Black Family Wellness Expo where health screenings, CPR training, blood pressure checks and mammograms were available via the Sentara mammogram bus. A Healthy Living Workshop titled: Understanding Blood Sugar: The Science Behind Diabetes and How to Keep Levels Stable was presented.
Wellness Wednesday
On March 12, 2025 The Membership Services Committees of Newport News, Denbigh, Hampton and Williamsburg Alumnae Chapters collaborated for a Sisterhood Month line dancing event. Held on “Wellness Wednesday”, Sorors enjoyed healthy snacks and door prizes, while working out through line dancing.
One City Marathon
“One City Marathon” On February 28 and March 2, 2025, the Physical and Mental Health Committee, Charitable Partners, and other chapter Sorors, served as volunteers for the “One City Marathon.” We assisted with greeting participants, registering and distributing bids, packing and dispersing packets and cheering on participants as they crossed the finish line. We also shared the spotlight with our sisters from the Denbigh Alumnae Chapter. “We are better together.”

Members of the Newport News Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc. attended the annual Greek of The Year Luncheon in Williamsburg on February 22, 2025. Representing NNAC 2024 Greek of The Year is our very own Crystal Hunt. Congratulations!
Visit to the Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital in Thika, Kenya.
While on a Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple EdYOUcarers Kenya Missions assignment Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, Sorors M.Jackie Barrett, Debra Vance – (Newport News VA Alumnae – International Awareness & Involvement, Jacqueline Caliborne – Hampton VA Alumnae and Dr. Rick Jarvis – Omega Psi Phi (Zeta Omicron) visited the Maternity Mary Helps for the Sick Missions Hospital in Thitka. They met the CEO/ Board Administrator & members of the Board of Directors. They presented reusable pads that were made by NNAC-DST International Awareness and Involvement Committees for their female patients.
Caroling and Gift Giving
The Physical and Mental Health Committee hosted a day of “Caroling and Gift Giving” on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 12997 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23602. The committee and chapter members provided gifts and entertainment for the residents. We sang, and sang, and sang some more. ALL had so much fun!

Congratulations to NNAC Soror Natalie Christian!
Congratulations to NNAC Soror Natalie Christian who is retiring from the Hampton Newport News Community Services Board after 27 years of dedicated service. She has served as the CSB’s Executive Director and is the first African American female to hold this position. Soror Christian will also have a building named after her on their medical campus. Congratulations Soror Christian for your dedicated service to the CSB!
World AIDS Day
The Hampton, Newport News, Denbigh, and Williamsburg Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated International Awareness and Involvement Committees along with our Sorors commemorated World AIDS Day on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Our guest speaker was Gabe Diaz, Executive Director of Hampton’s Diversity and Inclusion Office. A representative from the Urban League and the LGBT LifeCenter had an on-site mobile unit for confidential testing and counseling. Also, the reading of the proclamation was given by the Hampton Vice Mayor.
Let us remember that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to prevent new HIV infections and provide essential services to all people living with HIV globally.
NNAC participated in the Andrew Shannon Feeding 5000 Thanksgiving Harvest
Members of NNAC participated in the Andrew Shannon Feeding 5000 Thanksgiving Harvest on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Members donated a total of 26 Turkeys as well as numerous side items for this event. Our President, Soror Quanda Griffin as well as Soror Terri Best, Vice Chair of the Newport News School Board, served as celebrity servers. Thank you to all organizations that contributed to making this community event a huge success!
International Awareness & Involvement
In honor of our 22 Founders, the International Awareness and Involvement Committee’s December project was to fill 22 shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.
Samaritan’s Purse is an international Christian relief organization based in the United States. They specialized in emergency relief providing health, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education and livelihoods programs in over 100 countries worldwide.
One of their nine (9 jewels) ministry projects is Operation Christmas Child that sends gift-filled shoeboxes with the message of good news
and great joy to children in need around the world.
Delivery week is November 16 – 25. Thank you Sorors for your support in accomplishing this project.
20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Fundraiser
The Newport News Alumnae Chapter supported the 20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Fundraiser. The “fireside chat” was held on the campus of Christopher Newport University and featured Speaker Don Scott of the Virginia House of Delegates. NNAC participates in the National St.Jude Walk
NNAC participated in the National St.Jude Walk on September 28th for childhood cancer and awareness. It was a day of reflection, fellowship, and giving thanks. WAY TO GO NNAC!!! Thank you for supporting St. Jude Children Research Hospital 💫
Exciting Community Engagement:
Empowering Voices and Inspiring Action!
The Social Action Committee is on fire this month, making a real impact in our community! During National High School Voter Registration Week, the NNAC Social Action Committee hosted three electrifying Voter Registration Events. On September 24, we kicked things off at Warwick High School, followed by Heritage on the 25th, and wrapped up the series at Achievable Dream High School on the 26th, in partnership with Virginia Block. Over 40 enthusiastic students took the momentous step to register to vote! A huge shoutout to sorors Dr. Terri Best and Adrienne Graham for leading this vital initiative!
But the excitement didn’t stop there! On September 26, NNAC Social Action, in collaboration with the NN branch of the NAACP, hosted the Newport News Candidates Forum at the New Beech Grove Baptist Church. The event was a hit and live-streamed to reach a wider audience, and we welcomed over 50 engaged citizens in attendance! Soror Vickie Williams Cullins expertly moderated and co-coordinated the event
alongside Michelle Person, ensuring a dynamic discussion. Our sorors from the chapter proudly served alongside members of the Social Action Committee as gracious hostesses.
A heartfelt thank you to the Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for their generous donation of water and sweet treats, to the NN branch of the NAACP for co-hosting this important forum, and to Dr. Willard Maxwell, his AV team, and the dedicated members of New Beech Grove Baptist Church for their incredible support. Together, we are inspiring our community to engage, inform, and empower! Let’s keep the momentum going!
May Week Committee donates over 375 books to four schools
The May Week Committee donated over 375 books to four schools this year. Crittenden Middle School, The Discovery Stem Academy, and Newsome Park Elementary all in Newport News, and The Peake Childhood Center in Hampton VA.
Special thank you to Soror English Freeman who donated over 25 books and Soror Sylvia Balmer who donated over 100 books!

NNAC participated in National Voter Registration Day
NNAC participated in National Voter Registration Day on 9/17/24 at the Virginia Peninsula Community College. The Voter Registration QR code was a hit! Twenty citizens accessed the site to update their status or request absentee ballots. Five citizens registered and nine sorors supported the event from 9 am – 5 pm.

Soror Paula Page was honored at the City of Newport News Lifelong Citizenship Awards Ceremony.
Soror Paula Page was honored on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the City of Newport News Lifelong Citizenship Awards Ceremony. This award recognizes seniors over the age of 90 who have lived, worked, volunteered, or worshipped in Newport News and have provided notable service to the community. Thank you for your service Soror Page!
NNAC supports the Ida B. Wells Empowered to Vote walk!
Sorors Erica Calicut and Social Action Chair Vickie Williams Cullins represented NNAC during the Ida B. Wells Empowered to Vote walk on August 31, 2024, in Norfolk, VA. They joined Sorors from the Hampton and Norfolk Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., along with members of the Hampton Roads Branches of the NAACP.
Annual Round-Up: "Strolling Back Home One Soror at a Time"
The Membership Services Committee hosted the annual chapter Round-Up on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The Theme was “Strolling Back Home One Soror at a Time”. Sorors enjoyed food, fellowship, and activities that allowed them to “stroll back” in music, laughter, and in Delta.
Voter registration and restoration support
We provided voter registration and voter restoration support to two events on 8/10/2024.
1st event: We attended the 1911 Bowl from 10-12. and provided Voter Registration Services. We partnered with the Hampton Newport News Kappa Alpha Psi to provide Voter Registration Services.
2nd event: We attended the RIHD Mobile Justice Tour held at Pearl Bailey Library. NNAC provided Voter Registration and Voter Restoration Services. We met with 25 attendees and provided restoration of rights services for one attendee.
Special Sorors luncheon hosted by Hospitality Services Committee
The Hospitality Services Committee hosted a luncheon in July for our Special Sorors. Only one “Special Soror” attended and that was Soror Shelley Brooks. Chapter members present enjoyed fellowshipping while participating in getting-to-know-you games.

Soror Suzette Meeks had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in March as a member of The Regent
University Choir. Soror Meeks is an Adjunct Math Professor at the University. The Regent University Choir
made school history in its debut performance at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall. Attached is the

NNAC 2024 - 2025 Greek of the Year
Congratulations to the NNAC 2024-2025 Greek of the Year Crystal G Hunt. Crystal has been an active member of NNAC since her initiation in 2014. She has chaired the chapters Delta Academy and Delta GEMS committees. Served as the chapter’s Corresponding Secretary and currently serves as the chapter’s Recording Secretary. She serves with humility and truly exemplifies the core values of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Members were presented with an Anniversary Award at the June 2024 chapter meeting.
Music Through The Decades
NNAC in partnership with Hampton Alumnae held a joint Voter Registration Drive at the inaugural city of
Newport News Music through the Decades block party. It was truly a party with a purpose. We debuted our
NNAC unique Voter Registration QR code. Folks had immediate access to the Department of Elections
website where they could register, check their status, change their address, or request an absentee ballot.
It was a huge hit. The social action committee was joined by many chapter sorors and the event was a
huge success. We connected with many residents and registered 5.
NNAC Community Projects Committee
Members of the Community Projects Committee delivered school supplies to three schools in this year’s School Supply Drive. Newsome Park Elementary, Crittenden Middle and Sedgefield Middle Schools’ staff were all overjoyed to receive the supplies.

NNAC Financial Wellness Workshop
NNACDST Financial Wellness Workshop was held on Saturday, February 10, 2024. First Genesis of Virginia provided a Financial Wellness Workshop with a focus on Life Insurance. The workshop was conducted by Danica Royster, a Wealth Consultant.
