Five-Point Programmatic Thrust

Since it’s inception in 1913 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc has distinguished itself  as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African American family have evolved. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. The Newport News Alumnae Chapter strives to implement programs that fall under our National Guidelines.

Economic Development

The Economic Development Program consist of activities relating to financial planning, money management, consumer education, investment, employment opportunities, and more to help our membership journey toward financial independence and economic empowerment.

Educational Development

The Educational Development Program consist of activities designed to address the need for excellence in education and to confront the problems of African American women in all age groups. Scholarships shall be provided to deserving students in the local community.

International Awareness & Involvement

The International Awareness and Involvement Program consist of annual activities to build international relationships and embrace and enhance the global facet of our sorority and the world.

Physical & Mental Health

The Physical and Mental Health Program consist of activities with a goal to educate and facilitate lifestyle changes for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of Sorors and the community we serve.

Political Awareness and Involvement

The Political Awareness and Involvement Program consist of activities designed to educate the public on domestic and foreign issues, including human and civil rights, and how these issues affect the needs of the African-American community.
