Youth Programs

The EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-American males. The program promotes and provides collaborative efforts to improve the quality of life for African American males ages 11-17, in middle to high school, for building opportunities of developing independence. Both informal and empirical data suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continues to be in crisis and is not reaching its fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue and recommendations for change and action. EMBODI addresses issues related to STEM education, culture, self-efficacy, leadership, physical and mental health, healthy lifestyle choices, character, ethics, relationships, college readiness, fiscal management, civic engagement and service learning.  We are not currently accepting applications for this program.  More information to come.

Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy provides an opportunity for young women ages 11-14 to engage in an educational program tailored to their specific needs as growing individuals. The program is designed for young women who need guidance while they transition through social, emotional, and physiological development. Delta Academy participants will engage in a fun learning experience that provides mentoring, educational activities, and service learning opportunities. We are not currently accepting applications for this program.  More information to come.

DELTA GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully)  –  A natural outgrowth and expansion for the continuation of the Dr. Betty Shabaaz Delta Academy, Delta Gems was created to catch the dreams of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18 and/or in grades 9-12. This program is ideal for young women who have potential, but need guidance, support and skills to achieve success; young women who are interested in developing leadership skills, young women  who are actively pursuing college and/or career options and young women who may need encouragement and support in pursuit of higher learning. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude. We are not currently accepting applications for this program.  More information to come.
